Studio Gallery

It is the longest running, artist-owned gallery in the area. It showcases work from about 30 local contemporary artists as well as organizing outreach programmes to get people more involved with the arts.

Marsha Mateyka Gallery

You will find contemporary paintings, sculpture, photographs and works on paper. It represents 20 artists and serves major museums, corporate and private collectors.

Numark Gallery

The Gallery seeks to push back contemporary art boundaries whilst addressing modern day issues. They represent a mix of artists ranging from emerging to internationally renowned, many of whom have appeared in well-known venues such as the Whitney Biennial and SFMoMA

Well known art galleries in Washington DC

The Smithsonian Institution encompasses a mix of galleries and museums. The galleries include:

The National Museum of Women in the Arts holds over 3,500 paintings, sculptures, works on paper and decorative art, and is the only museum to be solely dedicated to celebrating women’s achievements in the arts.

The Corcoran Gallery of Art is the largest private museum in Washington DC. It’s primary focus is to exhibit American art, which includes work from Delacroix, Degas, Monet, Rembrandt, Picasso, and Warhol.

Artists associated with Washington DC

Lloyd McNeill was born in DC. AS well as painting, he is also a flutist. He is currently professor emeritus of Mason Gross School of the Arts in New Jersey.

Anson Holzer’s work has been co0mpared to artists of the Color Field school that originated in Washington DC. His work is considerably large for his genre, often exceeding 6 sq meters in size. His paintings can be found in collections all around the world.
