The Wynwood Art District is home to the most art galleries in Miami. Located to the west of Wynwood Edgewater, the district is host to around 25 galleries. Galleries include:

Located Downtown, Miami Art Museum focuses on exhibiting contemporary art. It has a strong education program and continually looks at enhancing the community’s experience of the Miami art scene.
The Museum of Contemporary Art’s mission statement is, “to make contemporary art accessible to diverse audiences - especially under-served populations - by exploring the art of our time and its relationship to a broader cultural context”. The building was designed by Gwathmey Siegel and Associated Architects, and Gelabert-Navia.
The Frost Art Museum is on the University Park campus and is well known for it’s collection of Latin American and 20th century American art. The Miami New Times names it ‘Miami’s Best Art Museum 2009’.
Found in Miami-Dade County, the Lowe Art Museum has a varied collection of Greco-Roman antiquities, Renaissance, Baroque, 17th and 19th century European art, 19th century American art and modern art. It also has an impressive collection of glassworks.
Art Events in Miami
One of the best known shows throughout the world is the Art Basel Miami Beach. The event combines an international selection of top galleries with special exhibitions, displays and performances all hosted in the Art Deco district. Art galleries from everywhere exhibit 20th and 21st century art from over 2,000 artists. Over 43,000 visitors attend the Art Basel and it is an event where everybody can enjoy some great shows and Miami art for sale. Here, the elite art critics mix with the novice art collector. Many consider Art Basel to be the catalyst for the wave of contemporary art to hit Miami.
On the 2nd Saturday of each month, a Art Walk is held in the Wynwood Art District. Many galleries and art studios open up their doors and offer free admission to the public. It is a great social event involving art, music, food and beverages.
