The East Village Arts District is the place to go for art in Long Beach. The landscape consists of high-rise condos, artist lofts and small craftsman cottages. There is a wide mix of different cultures, income levels, and professions within the area. Visiting the many shops and restaurants, you will see many works by local artists.
A free bus service, called Village Tour D’art, stops off at the many famous art centers and galleries, as well as other cultural sight-seeing spots.

Koos Art Center
This not-for-profit organization features local musical and still artists in a relaxed environment. At night, the venue hosts acoustic, rock and instrumental performances.
Eagle Eye Gallery
The Gallery offers some stunning photographs of locations all over the world. This includes aerial shots over Alaska and New Zealand. There are also some great wildlife images available.
Well known galleries in Long Beach
The Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) is the only museum in the USA dedicated to modern and contemporary Latin American art. It includes a 15,000 square foot sculpture garden. The museum, established in 1996, promotes dialogue between artists, educational boards and the public.
Overlooking Long Beach Harbor and the Pacific Ocean, the Long Beach Museum of Art has multiple areas with continually changing exhibitions. It offers educational programs, arranges festivals and other musical events.
Art Events in Long Beach
Every month on the second Saturday, there is an Art Walk where you can visit art receptions and special events in shops and galleries in the East Village Arts District. The event runs from 4pm to 10pm and admission is free.
The District is also home to Tour des Artistes, which is an annual street festival in June that features visual artists of every discipline, including performing artists. It has been running for over 10 years, and each year the event proves bigger and better than the previous.
Also in the East Village Arts District is Soundwalk, which is a sound festival where you can visit several site-specific installation and sound-art performances. This art event attracts internationally renowned sound artists as well as local participants. Each year the event follows a theme.
Artists from Long Beach
Don Dixon is an astronomical artist and has provided art for the covers of many publications, including Scientific American, Sky and Telescope, and Astronomy magazine. He used to work in oils, but now predominately uses acrylic and gouache.
Nick Pugh is an artist and designer, specialising in digital art using his computer as a canvas. He has been involved with the graphical concepts of such projects as ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ and ‘Superman Returns.
