Lower downtown of Denver, Colorado, also known as LoDo, is filled with art galleries and buzzing bars and clubs. Galleries include:
The collection includes regional art from the 19th and early 20th centuries. A specialist subject is the Rocky Mountain, and New Mexico art from Santa Fe and Taos schools of art. Much of the work is modernist, plein-air, impressionist, and abstract.

Well known art galleries in Denver
Denver Art Museum, located in the Civic Center, is well known for its collection of American Indian art. It does have other curatorial departments including: architecture, design & graphics; Asian art; modern and contemporary; New World (pre-Columbian and Spanish Colonial); painting & sculpture (European and American); photography; Western art; and textile art. The total collection exceeds 68,000 pieces of art.
Art Events in Denver
First Friday Art Walk is held every month in Denver’s ArtDistrict. You can walk to over 30 different galleries in one evening, enjoying the atmosphere and social gatherings. It begins at 6pm and ends at 9pm.
For three days in a row during July, the Cherry Creek Arts Festival showcases artwork from across the U.S. With over 350,000 visitors, the event is one of America’s most popular outdoor arts festivals. Around 250 artists will showcase their work attracting collectors from all over the world.
Artists associated with Denver
Vance Kirkland (1904-1981), born in Ohio, became founding Director of the University of Denver School of Art. He is seen as one of the most important Colorado painters and was involved in Designed Realism, Surrealism, Abstractions from Nature, Abstract Expressionism, and The Dot Paintings.
George Elbert Burr (1859-1939) was best known for his etchings and drypoints of the desert and mountain regions of Western America. He had provided illustrations for Harper’s, Scribner’s Magazine, Frank Leslie’s Weekly, and The Cosmopolitan.
