Artblog
Visit Artblog.
Artblog mainly consists of art critique, essays, and news. The occasional entry showcases Einspruch’s work.
Einspruch’s coverage is dictated by whatever subjects attract his attention, which in itself is not so rare. What makes Artblog coverage unique is that Einspruch’s reading selections remain unaffected by the latest art market trends. The resulting entries can be viewed less as a personal contribution to the latest art meme, and more like the latest step in an ongoing journey of personal discovery.
This trend towards self-determination is a constant presence as you consider Artblog. Einspruch’s writing style reflects his interest in pushing at boundaries, at exposing things for what they are. We like this approach very much, but would note a couple of things. The first is that no one is likely to agree with everything written on this blog – Einspruch himself is likely to look back at aged entries and find his views have moved on. This is a partly due to the personalised nature of the entries, and partly a by product of Einspruch’s desire to push at boundaries. The second is that blog entries are produced daily, and therefore cannot go into the all encompassing detail that is expected of a PhD thesis. To get the most out of Artblog treat the candid, highly personalised, thoughts-at-a-point-in-time writing the same way as Einspruch surely does – a stimulus for further thinking of your own.
Readers may note that Einspruch has recently turned his comments facility off. Talking to us recently as a part of the Extraordinary art blog series (see our Artblog.net interview), Einspruch stated he was looking forward to ‘developing a voice as a writer distinct from the vocal portion of my readers’. We think ‘regaining’ rather than ‘developing’, but the underlying point seems to be a good one. Still, we hope to see an Artblog.net at some point in the future with some form of debate.
Artblog.net pushes at its readers at times, both to think further afield and to challenge their convictions; those up for the challenge will be all the better for it.
