Winkleman’s art blog is one of the 10 or so highest profile among regular art blog readers. Whilst Winkleman writes in other blogs, he describes this as the “no-holds barred” one. He also states in his first entry, ‘If you don’t get contemporary art, you won’t be spared’. Oh, and Winkleman is a _pretty_keen_ democrat, and often shares his political thoughts on his blog.
The picture you might have gained so far is one of a bombastic gallery owner, who is keen to promote their art. Sorry, but that is entirely misleading: The popularity of Winkleman’s art blog stems from the fact that he writes insightful, extremely well-balanced entries.
As with many of the best art blogs, the comments section adds a lot to the entry. Winkleman’s readers are generally very knowledgeable, articulate, and love to debate.
This is, by some distance, the best art blog produced by an art dealer. If you have not read Winkleman’s art blog before, we strongly recommend a visit.
We like this article:
Opening up the Sophistication Speakeasy. 21st October 2008
Why we like it:
This entry discusses the approachability of galleries and the behaviour of collectors. The comments thread provides further food for thought as well.
