Eco Art Blog
Visit the Eco Art Blog.
The Eco Art Blog focuses on showing how the environment can have an impact on visual arts and vice versa. Entries in Eco Art Blog showcase examples of people in the art world working to overcome conservation issues or social injustice.
The Author’s (Matthias Merkel Hess) art follows his green values, and is created to prove, or offer ideas, on how to improve our social and ecological environment. He is also extremely community-spirited, and enjoys participating in the constant debate about what the future holds for art – many of the blog posts are centred round this discussion.
By combining what most people would consider a balanced editorial style, with some interesting-in-its-own-right subjects the Eco Art Blog does an extremely engaging job of covering the intersection between art and the environment.
We like this article:
Mini-Mart City Park, 16th November 2008
Why we like it:
It’s about the excellent idea of turning abandoned buildings into parks and centres for the community such as art galleries.
About Hess
Matthias Merkel Hess works mainly in ceramics and drawing. Currently at graduate school, Hess has won a variety of grants for his talent, including the Hyman Eugene Oxman Scholarship, and the Laura Anderson Ceramics Scholarship, both for the University of California.
Hess also co-edits, alongside Roman Jaster, the biannual publication, Mammut. Similar to the Eco Art Blog, it hunts down any artistic creation or topic that has a connection to the environment. It is an excellent reference for those wanting an understanding of how art and nature can work together.
