Heart as Arena

Visit the Heart as Arena art blog.

Heart as Arena is named after a phrase in a Jean-Michel Basquiat painting. Coverage primarily revolves around reviews of artists and exhibitions, located mainly on the East Coast of the USA. The occasional post will spark up an enthralling discussion – the entry covering the Barkley L. Hendricks show in Harlem being a particularly good example. (See the Christmas Came Early to the House of Brent post, dated 3rd January 2009, for more.)

Entries include plenty of images, which is not unusual in itself; the impeccable selection, and accompanying narrative, make Heart as Arena a standout for those on the look out for an artist they have not seen before.

We like this article:
Houses in Motion: Angela Dufresne, 26th November 2008.

Why we like it:
It is a concise summary, with pictures, of Dufresne’s work, which properly encapsulates the beauty of her art.

About Burket
Brent Burket is a collector and curator, based in Brooklyn, New York.

Burket has a great eye for contemporary art, and has an ability to combine different styles of art and produce complimentary results. He recently curated an exhibition called Unbreak My Heart for the Pluto Gallery in Brooklyn, where the pieces of art were picked for their ability to help fix a broken heart.

Burket is also involved with the organization, Creative Time. Situated in New York, its aim is to promote the most innovative art to the public by enticing them with inventive exhibitions and art shows. Creative Time frequently meets with like-minded artists, galleries and audiences to ensure they are on track to achieving a cultural impact on society. In addition to the entries produced for Heart as Arena, Burket also produces articles for ArtCal, the online art magazine.
