Visit the Making a Mark art blog.

Making a Mark is crammed with useful nuggets of information on all sort of subjects that have caught Tyrrell’s attention. Just a few of the subjects covered in a broad editorial scope, include: drawing tips and tricks, reviews of UK shows and artists, information about art projects, and the occasional how-to guide of art blogging.

Whilst the site has a mass a range of information, Tyrrell has done a lot to surface some of the key posts – posts that people have found most interesting or that provide standing advice to artists and so on. Category links, links to her other site, and source of referential information are also provided in abundance. The result is a site that is busy, fun, without being entirely overwhelming.

Making a Mark is a fantastic hub of information. Recreational artists, and art lovers in general, will find this blog particularly useful.

We like this article:
Working in a series – drawing and painting ponds, 5th January 2009-01-11

Why we like it:
This is a reflection of how to illustrate ponds in different seasons and times of day. It is an excellent example of how Tyrrell seeks to bottom out the methodology behind artistic representation, drawing from her own experience and that of others.

About Katherine Tyrrell
Katherine Tyrrell is an artist located in London, UK. Tyrrell works in Pastel, Pencil, Pen, and Ink.

She is also a qualified teacher and leads workshops about sketching. She belongs to the UK Coloured Pencil Society, the Society of Feline Artists, and the Society of Graphic Fine Art.

Much of Tyrrell’s art evolves out of her travels and life-experiences. She is an avid people-watcher, and enjoys observing how humans respond to different circumstances and places, which she applies to her art. Her drawings can be found in the UK, North America and Australia, in exhibitions and private collections.

Tyrrell is a prodigious writer, and obviously loves to share information: in addition to her entries on Making a Mark, she writes for a variety of blogs, and is writing two books.
