Two Coats of Paint is a digest of articles focused mainly on painting, but also including associated topics that have caught Butler’s attention. In some posts, Butler will also add her own comments and opinion. There is a considerable amount of information available on the site, with an average of forty entries per month. If you are looking for one-stop coverage of painting, this is an excellent place to start.

You will find information about individual paintings and artists rather than business-related subjects like auctions and art-market economics. Sometimes taking on a less sombre approach, Butler does have a self-proclaimed proclivity for ‘news trash’ stories; Two Coats of Paint also contains articles on celebrities-who-paint, and artists that have rediscovered themselves. We find a guiltily enjoyment in reading these posts, and they make a nice addition for regular readers of the blog.

Butler appreciates commentators who recognise that being an artist is a developmental process, accrued through living – something that applies to her own career. Two Coats of Paint tends to steer away from negative reviews, restricting such thoughts to the odd jab at an artist Butler considers to be in the profession solely for a quick profit.

We recommend this blog to anyone that is interested in art criticism; especially painters, art students, collectors and curators.

We like this article:
Obama’s Favourite Painting? 13th November 2008

Why we like it:
Butler has inserted a piece from the Telegraph about a painting by George Frederic Watts called ‘Hope’. It is reported to be Barack Obama’s favourite painting. The reasons behind Obama’s choice are quite fascinating.
